How Reiki came to the Western world
Among the many humans who were trained from Mikao Usui were some physicians. Among them was Dr. Chujiro Hayashi, an officer of the imperial Japanese navy. Hayashi was a physician and used Reiki systematically for healing. In a Reiki hospital, which Dr. Hayashi founded it was exclusively treated with Reiki.
On Hawaii lived a woman of Japanese descents with name Hawayo Takata . She became ill and went to Japan to become a modern and also traditional Japanese treatment. It was found out that she had a tumor. Briefly before the surgery she asked a physician whether it gives another possibility of the healing. The physician explained her that on the other roadside the Reikiclinik of Dr. Hayashi is.
She felt intuitive the fact that this correct for her and so she went to Dr. Hayashi. She was treated over several months daily by several people at the same time with Reiki. She was healed.
To stay healthy she became initiated into the 1. Reikigrad. But Mrs. Takata had to work 1 year in Dr. Hayashis hospital. Before she returned to Japan she became also initiated into the 2. Reiki grade. She returned to Hawaii and and treated with Reiki. Short time later Dr. Hayashi followed her to Hawaii. Together they traveled much, treated with Reiki and held courses.
Before Dr. Hayashi traveled back to Japan she got initiated into the 3. grade (master degree). We must be grateful to Mrs. Takata, because she brought Reiki into the western world, into the U.S.A. and over the U.S.A. came to Reiki to us.
A further pupil of Dr. Hayashi practiced also Reiki, however differently as Mrs. Takata this did and teached.

The niece of Mrs. Takata, Mrs. Phyllis Lei Furumoto leads today a Reikiorganisation, the Reiki Alliance.
